Sharon+Jesse: selections 27th February 2009

Some selections of a cosy little wedding ceremony for a couple madly in love with each other.

Happy tears, warm hugs, and fond farewells - here's wishing the best for the lucky couple!

A challenging event to shoot for, and I'm glad I was there!

Ridz & Rozanna 1st December 2007

A delightful wedding ceremony spanning across Singapore. Learning about the Malay wedding customs was a new experience, and friends and relatives went out of their way to help this orang cina juru gambar do his job.

Soundslide - IWC Watchmaking Class with Mr Kurt Klaus
16th November 2007

Presented together with Sincere Watches, IWC conducted a week-long series of classes for fine watch enthusiasts and collectors.

Participants got to disassemble a watch movement, and had the satisfaction of putting everything back together and hearing it tick-tock back to life.

A collection of images that shows the essence of fun, friendship, and fine watches.

SMU Open House 2007
10th-11th March 2007

Booths and People

Info-sessions and Seminars

Performances

The SMU Open House is here again!

This year's event was grander than before, with many more activities, info-sessions, and seminars for prospective students. Interest in SMU was also much higher judging by the number of visitors.

The perfomances were fantastic and held the attention of the audience. Mysteriously, 15-20 photographers with all sorts of cameras would pop up whenever there were any performances, and disappear without a trace. Goes to show how good the performers were!

Seems like the OUA staff will have lots of work ahead! Special thanks to Linette, Abel, Shini, Siying, MingMing, and Shirley for making my job much easier during these two hectic days.

*Note: Used the 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM lens for this event, and it's such a gem! Cheap, cheap, only $1800!

Tipsy Thursday @ Frujch
8th March 2007

The SIS brats finally got together after 4 years and put on their first performance at Frujch.

Shirley popped down after work to watch the show and have a drink and chat.

The performance was slightly delayed but started well with Jeff on vocals and KK on guitar and keyboard.

Hope you guys enjoyed yourselves!

SMU-OUA NSMen Jamboree 2006
18th November 2006

Again, probably my last NSMen Jamboree as an SMU student.

It was fun having the chance to walk around and interact with people, taking their photographs and watching the smiles on their faces when they saw their photos.

The OUA Advocates, Ambassadors, and students from the various schools really convinced the NSFs that SMU is the choice for them, and the faculty from the various schools highlighted the unique advantages of SMU.

Not forgetting the electrifying performances from Eurythmix, Caderas Latinas, and Samba Masala!

Great job, everyone! All this was possible because of the great staff at OUA, making sure SMU gets students who will thrive and succeed in future.

Starry Nite 4 @ SMU
17th November 2006

Probably the last Starry Night for me as an SMU student. Music was not bad, although the band sequence was weird. Great band music from our Filippino friends in SMU really got the mood started and bodies moving, then the next band was a jazz band that looked as if they were trying really hard to enjoy performing. Mood, killed.

Then came Tabula, who were paid $300 per person and kept complaining it was 'too hot'. I guess the other SMU bands who were performing for the passion were enjoying it too much to notice the heat.

Had a great time shooting with the EF 70-200 f/4 and the 85 f/1.8. Super quick AF and minimal post-processing needed. Makes me shudder when I think about using my own lenses again!

Sports Fiesta 2006 @ SMU
29th September 2006

Somehow, for no apparent reason, I decided to bring my camera to school. Lucky I did, 'cos I had forgotten that the Sports Fiesta was on that day.

Spent about 90 minutes walking around with Lucas, KK and his #$@!~% heavy 80-200 lens. I sure wouldn't want to have one like that with me when I'm travelling...

Beginning to lean towards 'acquiring' more primes... Maybe a 28mm f/2.8? Weird length, but I seem to use that quite alot. Of course, a EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4 would be best.

Aurythmics VI: A concert at the Arts House
14th June - 16th August 2006

Rehearsal

Pre-Show

Show Time!

Post-Show

Here's a sneak peek at the pictures from the concert by the Metro Philharmonic Youth Choir together with the Metro Philharmonic Chorus.

Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the performance and it turned out to be quite enjoyable other than the fact that I was supposed to be working!

They're going to have another concert on 26th November at the Victoria Concert Hall, and tickets are only $12! Do let me know if you're interested, and I'll hook you up with the people in charge.

It was quite a challenge working in that environment. It was a "fine-arts" event, so I couldn't really run around like those rock concerts that I used to shoot. Imagine opening my Crumpler bag in the middle of the performance! *RRRRrrrrriiiipppppp* That was a nitemare. The lighting was uneven as well, and I'm having a hard time with the white-balance. Thank goodness for RAW files!

SMU Freshmen Team-building Camp -- Run 3
14th-16th August 2006

Day 1

Day2

Day3

Hottest Freshie!

In-water shots

Thanks to Marcus, I had the chance to join the new freshies during their orientation camp at Changi.

It was great fun to observe the activities from the sidelines and capture the moments of pure bliss, excitement, and terror. The orientation committee did a great job in organising the innovative events, which were executed well by the facilitators. Great job, guys! I'm sure the freshies had lots of fun. If any of you want the pictures, just contact me at john.lui.2003[AT]sis.smu.edu.sg

Tried something different and spent 3 hours in the water to get closer perspectives of the kayaking portion. Had a great time, and would have been better if I weren't wearing XL-sized Scubapro Jetfins. A good workout, maybe?

SailCamp @ Raffles Marina
29th June - 1st July 2006

First ever SMU Sail Club training camp at Raffles Marina where we had lots of serious training, fun, and scandals!

Had a great time with the new sailors and we went through an intense weekend going through the rules, flags, and techniques of keelboat sailing. Hope all this pays off during the RSYC Regatta two weeks from now!

UBS Security Operations Mid-Year Party
9th June 2006

We had a PhotoHunt around the Suntec and City Hall area, and it was great fun seeing your normally solemn colleagues who only talk about confos and trades and transfers suddenly get all excited about taking photographs!

We had a little party after the event for some food and drinks, and also the prize presentation. It was a great experience working in the organising committee, and also a chance to know more people within UBS. Definitely a good experience.

UBS 6-a-side Interdepartmental Soccer Tournament
6th May 2006

Soccer tournament during Polling Day! First time shooting a sports event, and I mucked it up. Checked everything but the EV compensation..and ended up 2 stops over-exposed, which explains the bright, sunny effect (even though we had dreary weather). Pretty apt, isn't it? Had a great time with my new colleagues, and also getting to know more people at the office. Enjoy the photos!

*Note to self: Have yet to learn how to capture the mood and feel of a sports event. Perhaps more portraits and candid shots instead of just focusing on the sport?

CCTE Bridging Programme - Copa Cabana!
23rd April 2006

A special event organised by the CAs with the support of CCTE for the Bridging Programme students to celebrate the end of the course, and the start of the interviews, SATs, essays, tests...and hopefully student life in SMU.

Held at Sentosa, this was the first time we held an event for the Bridging Programme outside of SMU. Hope you guys had fun and enjoyed yourselves! Good luck for your interviews, from all of the CAs at CCTE!

CCTE pre-exam goodluck party
5th April 2006

Had fish and chips from Greenwood Fish Market and Bistro, behind NJC. Followed by some Taboo! That really showed the best side of us.. Mostly head & shoulder shots. Taken with 350D and 50mm at f2.2-3.5 Photos are not PS-ed or edited.

FaceOff @ SMU
8th March 2006

3 bands, 1 night only. Rock concert at Bigsteps. Supposedly Jamiel's last concert, but I didn't get any pictures of him.

Patron's Day @ SMU
13th February 2006

Lots of bands, lots of fun. Rock concert with EIC, UnXpected, G-Band, and other bands as well. Experimented with some B&W stuff. Expect lots of the same pictures but in different colours.

Simon Cabaret Show @ Phuket
22nd December 2005

Song and dance show in Phuket. 600 baht for a 2 hour show. Pretty decent and entertaining. Most shots taken with a 75-300 f4-5.6 without flash. I was rather surprised the shots turned out well..
